Thousands Attend Rajiv Ruparelia Eye Camp in Bukedea

The Ruparelia Foundation’s free eye care camp has drawn thousands of people, far exceeding initial expectations, as residents flock to Bukedea Teaching Hospital for treatment and guidance on various eye conditions.

The three-day outreach, organized by the Ruparelia Foundation in partnership with local health stakeholders, runs in memory of the late Rajiv Ruparelia, whose contributions to community service and humanitarian work are widely celebrated. The camp will continue until Sunday, providing eye care services to all in need.

Rajiv Ruparelia, former Managing Director of the Ruparelia Group, was known for his unique character, problem-solving approach, and deep compassion for others. The initiative reflects his enduring legacy of service, marking the second eye camp organized by the Ruparelia family, following a similar event in Kamuli a few years ago.

Sheena Ruparelia, Rajiv’s younger sister, expressed her commitment to ensuring that everyone who turned up receives attention despite the unexpectedly large turnout.

“Even with the huge numbers, we will treat and reach out to everyone who has come,” she said.

Dr. Sudhir Ruparelia, Rajiv’s father, added that all patients will be monitored before discharge to ensure proper care and follow-up.

Dr. Lawrence Muganga, Vice Chancellor of Victoria University, a key partner in the outreach, noted the importance of collective action in improving community health.

“Bukedea shows that we need to come together, reflect, and help ordinary people,” he said.
